Method

Instructions for Channa

  1. 1

    Prepare Chickpeas

Soak the chickpeas overnight in water. Drain and rinse them before cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Chickpeas

In a pressure cooker, add soaked chickpeas with enough water. Cook for about 30 minutes or until soft. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Base

In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  4. 4

    Sauté Onions and Spices

Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies; cook for another couple of minutes.

  5. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Cook

Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.

  6. 6

    Spice it Up

Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.

  7. 7

    Combine with Chickpeas

Add the cooked chickpeas to the spice mix. Stir well and let simmer for 5-10 minutes. Add garam masala at the end.

  8. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with Batura.
