Biscuit and Sausage Gravy
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Make the Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently. Roll or pat to 1-inch thickness and cut into biscuits. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- 2
Prepare the Sausage Gravy
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
- 3
Cook the Bacon or Sausage
In a separate skillet, cook the bacon or sausage links until crispy and cooked through.
- 4
- 5
Prepare the Hashbrown Casserole
If using a pre-made hashbrown casserole, heat it according to package instructions. If making from scratch, prepare and bake according to your recipe.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
Split the biscuits in half and top with the sausage gravy. Serve with bacon or sausage, eggs, and a side of hashbrown casserole.
