Philadelphia Roll Ingredients
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare Sushi Rice
Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once cooked, let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
- 2
Season Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the warm rice. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
- 3
Prepare Ingredients
Slice the avocado into thin strips. If the cream cheese is too firm, soften it slightly in the microwave or let it sit at room temperature.
- 4
Assemble the Roll
Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface. Lay a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then grab a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge.
- 5
Add Fillings
In the center of the rice, place slices of smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and a sprinkle of masago.
- 6
Roll It Up
Using the bamboo mat, carefully lift the edge of the mat closest to you and start rolling it away from you, pressing gently but firmly to keep the roll tight. Roll until you reach the exposed edge of nori, then wet it lightly to seal the roll.
- 7
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp, wet knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Clean the knife between cuts to ensure clean edges.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the sushi on a plate and serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
