Method
Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Calamari
In a medium bowl, combine the calamari rings with buttermilk. Ensure all rings are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a shallow dish, place the gluten-free seafood breading. Set aside.
- 3
Prepare the Cherry Peppers
Slice the cherry peppers into rings or halves, depending on your preference. Set aside for frying.
Cooking
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of the breading into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.
- 5
Bread the Calamari
Remove the marinated calamari from the refrigerator. Dredge each ring in the gluten-free seafood breading, ensuring they are fully coated. Shake off any excess breading.
- 6
Fry the Calamari and Peppers
Carefully place the breaded calamari rings and sliced cherry peppers into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 7
Plate the Dish
Arrange the fried calamari and cherry peppers on a serving platter. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.
- 8
Serve with Marinara
Serve the RI Style Calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
