Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, typically 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combining and Serving

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce in the saucepan. Toss well to coat the spaghetti evenly with the sauce.

  2. 8

    Serve

Spoon the spaghetti onto plates and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil leaves before serving.
