Marinara Sauce
Method
Meatballs Preparation
- 1
Make the Meatball Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground veal, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- 2
Shape the Meatballs
Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 3
Sauté Onions and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Baking
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 6
Bake the Meatballs
Place the meatballs in a cast iron skillet or a baking dish. Pour the prepared marinara sauce over the meatballs, ensuring they are well covered. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
