1. Soak Corn Husks

In a large bowl, mix masa harina, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream the vegetable shortening until fluffy, then mix in the chicken broth gradually. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.

3. Assemble the Tamales

Take a soaked corn husk, spread about 1/4 cup of masa dough on the husk, leaving the top and bottom edges free. Place 2 tablespoons of filling in the center and fold the sides over the filling. Fold up the bottom of the husk to secure the tamale.

4. Steam the Tamales

Place the tamales upright in a steamer pot, cover, and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the masa separates easily from the husk.

5. Cool and Serve

Once cooked, let the tamales cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with salsa or your favorite sauce!
