Tamale Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Corn Husks

Soak the dried corn husks in warm water for at least 30 minutes until pliable. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Masa Dough

In a large bowl, combine masa harina, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add chicken broth and vegetable oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Filling

In a separate bowl, mix the shredded chicken with green salsa and chopped cilantro until well combined.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Tamales

Take a soaked corn husk and spread about 1/4 cup of masa dough onto the center. Add a spoonful of the chicken filling and fold the sides of the husk in, then fold the bottom up to secure the filling.

  5. 5

    Steam the Tamales

Place the tamales upright in a steamer pot. Cover with a damp cloth and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the masa is firm and cooked through.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the tamales from the steamer, let cool slightly, and serve with additional salsa verde if desired.
