Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour the activated yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare Filling

In a skillet, heat a bit of olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the sautéed vegetables, pepperoni, cooked sausage, mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Stromboli Assembly

  1. 6

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

  2. 7

    Add Filling

Spread the filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  3. 8

    Roll and Seal

Starting from one end, carefully roll the dough into a log. Pinch the edges to seal and tuck in the ends.

Baking

  1. 9

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolled Stromboli onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  2. 10

    Egg Wash

Brush the top of the Stromboli with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan and Italian seasoning.

  3. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
