Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Forming Knots

  1. 6

    Divide Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces.

  2. 7

    Shape Knots

Roll each piece into a long rope (about 8-10 inches long) and tie it into a knot. Place each knot on a greased baking sheet.

  3. 8

    Second Rise

Cover the knots with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake and Prepare Garlic Butter

  1. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 10

    Bake Knots

Bake the knots in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 11

    Make Garlic Butter

While the knots are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt. Stir until fragrant.

  4. 12

    Coat Knots

Once the knots are done baking, brush them generously with the garlic butter while they are still warm.

Prepare Marinara Sauce

  1. 13

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 14

    Add Tomatoes

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and salt. Stir to combine.

  3. 15

    Simmer Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped basil before serving.
