Method

Preparation of Teriyaki Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the Teriyaki Sauce

In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined.

Preparing Scallops

  1. 2

    Prepare the Scallops

Pat the scallops dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

  2. 3

    Marinate the Scallops

Place the scallops in a shallow dish and pour half of the prepared teriyaki sauce over them. Allow the scallops to marinate for at least 15 minutes. Reserve the remaining teriyaki sauce for cooking.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Cook the Scallops

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the scallops in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and opaque in the center.

  2. 5

    Add the Teriyaki Sauce

Once the scallops are cooked, pour the reserved teriyaki sauce into the pan. Allow it to bubble and thicken slightly for about 2 minutes, turning the scallops gently to coat them in the sauce.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

Serve the scallops over a bed of cooked rice. Drizzle with additional teriyaki sauce if desired, and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish.
