Method
Sushi Rice Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water in a fine-mesh sieve until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.
- 2
Cook the Rice
In a rice cooker or a pot, combine the rinsed sushi rice and 2.5 cups of water. Cook according to the rice cooker instructions, or bring to a boil in the pot, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- 3
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large mixing bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture with a wooden spatula. Allow to cool to room temperature.
Topping Preparation

In a large serving platter, spread out the sushi rice as the base. Arrange the sliced salmon, tuna, avocado, cucumber, and pickled ginger artfully on top of the rice.
