Method
Ice Cream Base Preparation

Prepare the Custard
In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook on low heat until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

Cool the Mixture
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
Flavoring the Ice Cream

Chocolate Flavor Option
For chocolate ice cream, mix in cocoa powder and chocolate chips to the chilled custard base. Stir until fully incorporated.

Limoncello Flavor Option
For limoncello ice cream, mix in limoncello, lemon zest, and lemon juice to the chilled custard base. Stir until fully incorporated.
Churning and Freezing

Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the flavored mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Freeze
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
