Fried Soft Shell Crabs
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Crabs
Rinse the soft shell crabs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Remove the gills and any remaining impurities.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
Dredge the Crabs
Dip each crab into the buttermilk, ensuring it is fully coated, then dredge it in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Crabs
Carefully add the crabs to the hot oil, frying them in batches if necessary. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the crabs from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
