Ingredients for Petite Fried Soft Shell Crabs

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Crabs

Rinse the soft shell crabs gently under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Dredging Mixture

In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Soak in Buttermilk

Dip each crab into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture until evenly coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Crabs

Carefully add the crabs to the hot oil, frying them in batches if necessary. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the crabs from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
