Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and allow it to cook until it turns a golden brown color. This should take about 8-10 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.

  2. 2

    Add Caramel to Mold

Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

  3. 3

    Blend Flan Mixture

In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and well combined.

  4. 4

    Pour Mixture into Mold

Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold.

  5. 5

    Bake in Water Bath

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the flan mold. Bake for about 50-60 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Allow the flan to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, invert the mold onto a serving plate so the caramel sauce flows over the flan.
