Sandwich Components

Au Jus

Caramelized Onions

Method

Caramelizing Onions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

In a skillet over medium heat, combine the butter and olive oil. Once melted, add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook the Onions

Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 20-30 minutes until they become golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

Making Au Jus

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine the beef broth, soy sauce, minced garlic, onion powder, and black pepper.

  2. 4

    Simmer the Mixture

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes to let the flavors meld together.

Assembling Sandwiches

  1. 5

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the French rolls or baguettes in half and lightly toast them if desired.

  2. 6

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each roll, layer the thinly sliced beef, a generous portion of caramelized onions, and top with slices of white American cheese.

  3. 7

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 8

    Serve with Au Jus

Serve the sandwiches hot with a small bowl of au jus for dipping.
