Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the large eggs, then add in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Chocolate Chunks

Fold in the chocolate chunks until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Hot Fudge Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan, mix together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and whole milk. Stir until smooth.

  2. 9

    Heat the Mixture

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly.

  3. 10

    Add Butter and Vanilla

Once it starts to simmer, add the butter and vanilla extract. Continue stirring until the butter is melted and the sauce is smooth.

  4. 11

    Remove from Heat

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the hot fudge sauce cool slightly before serving.

Serving Instructions

  1. 12

    Plate the Cake

Slice the cooled cake into desired portions and place each slice on a serving plate.

  2. 13

    Add Ice Cream

Top each slice of cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  3. 14

    Drizzle with Hot Fudge

Finally, generously drizzle the warm hot fudge sauce over the cake and ice cream before serving.
