Method

Prepare the Sauce

  1. 1

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

Add the finely chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  3. 3

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Cook the Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and red wine. Stir to combine.

  6. 6

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and fresh basil. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare the Bites

  1. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 8

    Layer Ingredients

In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the Bolognese sauce at the bottom. Lay down 3 pasta sheets, then add half of the ricotta cheese, half of the Bolognese sauce, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.

  3. 9

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer with 3 pasta sheets, the remaining ricotta, another layer of Bolognese sauce, and another third of mozzarella.

  4. 10

    Final Layer

Finish with the last 3 pasta sheets, the remaining Bolognese sauce, and sprinkle the top with the remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.

  5. 11

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

  6. 12

    Serve

Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing into bites. Serve warm.
