Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This will ensure that your potatoes bake evenly.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Potatoes

Scrub the russet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel. Prick each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.

  3. 3

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the pricked potatoes directly on the oven rack (or on a baking sheet for easier cleanup). Bake for 45-60 minutes or until the skins are crispy and a fork easily pierces through.

Toppings Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Bacon

While the potatoes are baking, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel to drain excess grease. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.

  2. 5

Prepare the Cheddar Cheese and Chives

Grate the cheddar cheese if not pre-grated. Chop the chives into small pieces.

Serving

  1. 6

    Assemble the Baked Potatoes

Once the potatoes are fully cooked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Cut a slit down the center of each potato and gently squeeze the sides to open them up.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings

Add 1 tablespoon of butter to each potato, followed by a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped chives. Serve immediately.
