Fried Catfish and Shrimp
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a large bowl, soak the catfish fillets and shrimp in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In another bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Seafood
Remove the catfish and shrimp from the buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dip each piece into the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 5
Fry the Seafood
Carefully place the coated catfish and shrimp into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried catfish and shrimp hot, drizzled generously with your favorite hot sauce.
