Preparation

Cooking Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is tender. Drain any excess fat.

2. Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Cook the Lasagna Noodles

While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

4. Prepare the Ricotta Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth.

5. Assemble the Lasagna

Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer 4 noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, sauce) one more time. Top with remaining noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.

6. Bake the Lasagna

Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
