Cornbread

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a cast-iron skillet in the oven to heat.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted unsalted butter, and sorghum syrup until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Bake

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add the remaining unsalted butter to coat the bottom. Pour the cornbread batter into the skillet and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Let the cornbread cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with additional sorghum syrup and butter if desired.
