Fried Shrimp or Fish
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Marinate the Seafood
In a bowl, combine the shrimp and fish fillets with buttermilk. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Seafood
Remove the shrimp and fish from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, coating evenly.
- 5
Fry the Seafood
Carefully place the coated shrimp and fish into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried seafood from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your choice of two sides.
