Method
Fried Chicken Directions
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In another large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. This will be your coating for the chicken.
- 3
Dredge the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing it into the flour to ensure a good coating. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
