Fried Native Shrimp

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Rinse the native shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Coat the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat thoroughly with the flour mixture.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
