Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Select and Wash Potatoes

Choose 4 medium-sized Russet potatoes. Rinse them under cool running water to remove any dirt.

  2. 2

    Peel the Potatoes

Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin off each potato. Rinse again to ensure no dirt remains.

  3. 3

    Cut the Potatoes

Cut each potato into long strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Aim for uniformity to ensure even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes fries crispier.

  2. 5

    Preheat the Oil

In a large deep pot, pour 4 cups of vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat.

  3. 6

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  4. 7

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 8

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. 9

    Season the Fries

While still hot, sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder over the fries to taste.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve Hot

Enjoy the hand-cut French fries hot, either on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce.
