Method

Preparation of Meat

  1. 1

    Marinate the Meat

In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Add your choice of chicken, beef, lamb, or pork to the marinade and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for best flavor.

  2. 2

    Cook the Meat

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the meat from the marinade and cook it for about 6-8 minutes per side (or until fully cooked) for chicken, or 8-10 minutes for pork and beef, ensuring it reaches the appropriate internal temperature.

Assembling the Gyro

  1. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the meat is cooking, chop the tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion into thin slices.

  2. 4

    Warm the Pita Bread

In a separate pan or directly on the grill, warm the pita bread for about 1-2 minutes until soft and pliable.

  3. 5

    Assemble the Gyros

On each warmed pita bread, layer the cooked meat, followed by the chopped vegetables, feta cheese, and a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce.
