Cooking Instructions
Prepare the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, add the granulated sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar melts and turns a golden brown color. Immediately pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Combine and Bake
Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan filled with hot water to create a water bath. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for about 30 minutes. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate so the caramel sauce flows over the flan.
