Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Rinse the long-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from being too sticky.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the Rice

Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir to coat it with the butter and vegetables. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the rice to lightly toast.

  4. 4

    Add Water and Seasoning

Pour in the water, add salt and black pepper, and bring to a boil. If using, add the green peas and diced carrots at this stage.

  5. 5

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.

  6. 6

    Fluff and Serve

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Then fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.
