Method

Brewing the Tea

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

    Add Hibiscus Flowers

Once the water is boiling, remove it from heat and add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers.

  3. 3

    Steep

Cover the saucepan and let the hibiscus flowers steep for about 15-20 minutes.

  4. 4

    Strain

After steeping, strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve into a heatproof pitcher to remove the hibiscus petals.

  5. 5

    Add Sugar

While the tea is still warm, stir in 1 cup of sugar until it is fully dissolved.

Chilling and Serving

  1. 6

    Cool the Tea

Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour until chilled.

  2. 7

    Prepare Serving Glasses

Fill serving glasses with ice cubes, about 1 cup of ice per glass.

  3. 8

    Add Lemon Juice

Pour the chilled hibiscus tea over the ice-filled glasses, and add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to each glass.

  4. 9

    Garnish

If desired, garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices.
