Filet Mignon

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Method

Filet Mignon

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steaks

Remove the filet mignon from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Steaks

Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over both sides of the steaks.

  3. 3

    Sear the Steaks

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steaks to the skillet. Sear the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Add Butter and Herbs

During the last minute of cooking, add butter and fresh herbs to the skillet. Spoon the melted butter over the steaks for added flavor.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steaks

Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and chop the russet potatoes into even chunks. Place them in a large pot of cold salted water.

  2. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Bring the pot to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 8

    Cook the Garlic

While the potatoes are boiling, peel and smash the garlic cloves. In a small saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and sauté the garlic on low heat until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

  4. 9

    Mash the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them and return them to the pot. Add the sautéed garlic, remaining butter, and heavy cream. Mash until smooth and creamy.

  5. 10

    Season the Mashed Potatoes

Season the mashed potatoes with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well.
