Mochi Dough
Method
Mochi Preparation
- 1
- 2
Add Water
Gradually add the water to the flour mixture, stirring until you have a smooth batter.
- 3
Microwave the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir the mixture, then cover and microwave for another minute. Stir again, then microwave for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute until the mochi is thick and slightly translucent.
- 4
Cool the Dough
Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave (it will be hot). Let the mochi dough cool for a few minutes.
- 5
Prepare the Work Surface
Sprinkle cornstarch on a clean work surface to prevent sticking.
- 6
Shape the Mochi
Once the dough is cool enough to handle, transfer it to the prepared surface and knead it lightly. Divide the dough into small pieces (about the size of a golf ball). Flatten each piece into a circle about 3 inches in diameter.
- 7
Fill with Ice Cream
Scoop a small amount of your chosen ice cream and place it in the center of each mochi circle. Carefully fold the edges of the mochi dough over the ice cream and pinch to seal. Make sure the ice cream is completely enclosed.
- 8
Freeze
Place the filled mochi on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 2 hours, or until the ice cream is firm.
