Burger Patty

Toppings

Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mixing Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and the egg. Use your hands or a spoon to mix until all ingredients are well incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Forming Patties

Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Press a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Chilling

Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up before cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 4

    Preheating the Grill or Skillet

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you may add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 5

    Cooking the Patties

Once hot, place the bison patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

  3. 6

    Adding Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Toasting Buns

While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Building the Burger

Spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked bison patty with melted cheese. Add tomato slices and pickles if desired, then top with the other half of the bun.

  3. 9

    Serving

Serve the bison burgers hot with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
