Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Brew the Coffee

Brew a strong cup of coffee using your preferred method. Allow it to cool completely before using.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the whites. Whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar until pale and creamy. This should take about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Mascarpone

Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth and well combined.

  4. 4

    Whip the Cream

In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Beat Egg Whites

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until no white streaks remain.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Soak the Ladyfingers

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

In a rectangular or square dish, place a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  3. 8

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

Finishing Touch

  1. 9

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve. Slice into squares and serve chilled.
