Fried Green Tomatoes

Method

Preparing Fried Green Tomatoes

  1. 1

    Slice the Tomatoes

Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, mix together the cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Tomatoes

Dip each tomato slice first in the flour, shaking off excess, then in the buttermilk, and finally coat with the cornmeal mixture. Ensure each slice is well-coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  5. 5

    Fry the Tomatoes

Carefully add the breaded tomato slices to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making Goat Cheese Mixture

  1. 6

    Prepare Goat Cheese Blend

In a bowl, combine the goat cheese, chopped basil, parsley, thyme, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined and creamy.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Arrange the fried green tomatoes on a serving platter. Top each slice with a generous dollop of the goat cheese mixture.

  2. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Optionally, you can garnish with additional herbs or a drizzle of olive oil before serving. Enjoy warm!
