Goat Cheese and Herbs
Method
Preparing Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Slice the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In a second bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, mix together the cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice first in the flour, shaking off excess, then in the buttermilk, and finally coat with the cornmeal mixture. Ensure each slice is well-coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 5
Fry the Tomatoes
Carefully add the breaded tomato slices to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
