Cook the Bacon
In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pot.

Add Potatoes and Broth
Add the diced potatoes, chicken broth, thyme, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.

Incorporate Clams and Cream
Stir in the chopped clams and heavy cream. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Season and Serve
Remove the bay leaf, season with salt and black pepper to taste. Crumble the reserved bacon on top and serve hot.
