Buttermilk Fried Shrimp
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Marinate the Shrimp
In a bowl, pour the buttermilk over the shrimp and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Bread the Shrimp
Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 5
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried shrimp hot with french fries and onion strings on the side.
