For the Battered Onion Strings and Jalapeños

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Vegetables

Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings. Remove the stems and seeds from the jalapeños, then slice them into thin rings as well.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and has a thick consistency.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Vegetables

Dip the onion rings and jalapeño slices into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Vegetables

Carefully drop the battered onion strings and jalapeños into the hot oil in batches. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion strings and jalapeños from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Season with additional salt if desired, and serve hot.
