Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the 2 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 3

    Form the Dough

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing to keep the dough light and airy.

  4. 4

    Chill the Dough

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of dough into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Take the chilled dough and shape it into sticks, about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. Make sure to keep your hands floured to prevent sticking.

  3. 7

    Fry the Dough Sticks

Carefully place the dough sticks into the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  4. 8

    Drain and Dust

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried dough sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still warm, dust with powdered sugar.
