Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Rice Cakes

If using dried rice cakes, soak them in warm water for about 30 minutes until they are pliable.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Vegetables

Slice the cabbage into bite-sized pieces and chop the green onions into 1-inch sections.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix together gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and sesame oil to create the sauce.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Combine the Ingredients

In a large pan or wok, add the soaked rice cakes, fish cakes, cabbage, and the prepared sauce. Pour in the water and mix well.

  2. 5

    Cook the Tteokbokki

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly and the rice cakes are tender.

  3. 6

    Add Green Onions

Stir in the chopped green onions during the last few minutes of cooking for added flavor.
