Method
Chicken Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Season with salt and pepper.
- 2
Coat the Chicken
In a bowl, beat the egg and add the chicken pieces. Mix well to coat. Sprinkle cornstarch over the chicken and toss until well coated.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
In a large frying pan or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Orange Sauce Preparation
- 4
Make the Sauce
In a saucepan, combine the orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- 5
Thicken the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Once the sauce is boiling, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
Assembly
- 6
Combine Chicken and Sauce
In a large mixing bowl or the pan used for frying, add the crispy chicken pieces and pour the orange sauce over. Toss well to coat all pieces evenly.
- 7
Garnish and Serve
Transfer the orange chicken to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
