Method

Beef Marinade Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Marinade

In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the marinade is well mixed.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Beef

Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours for more flavor.

Rice Cooking

  1. 3

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

  2. 4

    Cook the Rice

In a large pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. Remove from heat and let it stand for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

Beef Cooking

  1. 5

    Cook the Beef

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and cook in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan.

  2. 6

    Simmer the Marinade

Pour the reserved marinade into the pan and bring it to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.

  3. 7

    Combine Beef with Marinade

Return the cooked beef to the pan, tossing it in the simmered marinade to coat.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Bowl

In serving bowls, place a generous scoop of cooked jasmine rice at the bottom. Top with the beef and drizzle some of the thickened marinade over it.

  2. 9

    Add Toppings

Garnish with chopped green onions, toasted sesame seeds, nori strips, and pickled ginger.
