Cake Preparation

1

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3

Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy.

4

Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

5

Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

6

Add Variations (if desired)

For chocolate cake, fold in cocoa powder. For carrot cake, fold in grated carrots, cinnamon, and walnuts. For German chocolate cake, fold in coconut and pecans.

7

Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

8

Cool

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
