Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and drain them on paper towels. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, and black pepper to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the fries immediately while hot as a side dish or snack.
