Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, sift together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 tsp of baking powder, and 1 tsp of salt.
Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, beat together 3 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine and Bake
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Milk Soaking Mixture
Soak the Cake
Once the cake has cooled, poke holes all over the top using a fork. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let the cake absorb the milk for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
Caramel Cream Topping
Make the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup of granulated sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color. Be careful not to burn it.
Add Butter and Cream
Once the sugar has melted, remove it from the heat and carefully add 1 tbsp of butter and 1 cup of heavy cream. Whisk until smooth and let it cool slightly.
Top the Cake
Pour the caramel cream over the soaked cake, spreading it evenly. Allow it to cool completely in the refrigerator before serving.
