Bolognese Sauce

Method

Preparing the Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the onion is translucent.

  2. 2

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. This should take about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix all the ingredients well.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 5

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 6

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions (usually about 8-10 minutes) until al dente.

  3. 7

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.

Serving

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the Bolognese sauce. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.

  2. 9

    Plate and Garnish

Serve the spaghetti Bolognese hot, garnished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and basil leaves.
