Cake Ingredients
Molten Center
Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
- 4
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Molten Center Preparation
- 7
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.
- 8
Fill the Cakes
Once the cakes are cooled, use a serrated knife to level the tops of the cakes if necessary. Place one layer on a serving plate and pour the melted chocolate mixture over the center, leaving a rim around the edges.
- 9
Assemble the Cake
Place the second cake layer on top of the first, gently pressing down. Optionally, you can pour some more melted chocolate on top of the second layer for added indulgence.
- 10
Serve
Slice the cake and serve immediately to enjoy the molten center.
