Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to create the marinade.

  2. 2

    Combine and Coat

Place the flank steak in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the steak. Ensure the steak is fully coated with the marinade. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for more flavor.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat (about 400-450°F or 200-230°C).

  2. 4

    Grill the Steak

Remove the steak from the marinade and discard the marinade. Place the steak on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until it reaches the desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips. Serve with chopped cilantro, diced tomatoes, sliced avocado, and lime wedges on the side for kids to customize their own servings.
