Steak and Seasoning

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the porterhouse steak out of the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for about 30-45 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the steak with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the olive oil onto the steak to ensure even coverage.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Oven

Preheat your grill to high heat (about 450-500°F) or preheat your oven to 400°F if you're using a cast iron skillet.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

If using a grill, place the steak on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare. If using an oven, sear the steak in a hot cast iron skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side, then transfer it to the oven and roast for about 10-15 minutes, depending on your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Check Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness: 130-135°F for medium-rare, 135-145°F for medium.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for at least 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve with fresh rosemary as garnish, if desired.
